A Parable of Socrates

Socrates walked through the marketplace with his disciples and as he passed from stall to stall, he admired the fine silks and leathers – the beauty and the craftsmanship – later walking home, Socrates was empty handed but smiling, one of his disciples asked, “Master, how can you be so happy? You didn’t buy anything?” To which Socrates replied, “I am happy knowing that I can be happy without all those things.”
