Arm Yourself

Weapons are equalizers. Take a 98-pound woman and put a pistol in her hand. She will take you down. And, if she chooses, you will never get up again.

Use surprise, aggression and speed. Arm yourself. Guns, knives, Tasers and pepper spray beat empty hands if you are trained and practice and have a survivor’s mindset. Always have your cell phone fully charged and with you.

Improvise and see everything as a weapon. Forks, spoons, lamps, chairs, pens, combs, keys, high-heeled shoes, sand, boiling water, gardening tools and sports equipment are all weapons. Think. Be creative. The ground, widows, doors, cars and traffic are all weapons.

Tightly roll up a magazine and you have an improvised baton. Smash your magazine baton on your thigh and you’ll feel the power. If you are right-handed, the standard technique would be to raise the baton to your left shoulder and strike down to the head, neck or shoulder of your attacker. Don’t worry about aiming. You don’t hit “AT” your target but “THROUGH” your target. Strike and strike again; cause pain and escape.

In elite military training, candidates should not expect kindness, benevolence or charity.
