Question: I like the idea of investing in real estate. I don’t like your other advice about working 50 or 60 hours a week to pay for it. Do you really have to sacrifice so much of your life especially when you are young just to live in comfort when you are old? Why not enjoy your life now while you have the energy?
Answer: Think of a twenty-year investment program, which you start at 23. By your middle 40s, you will be financially independent. This isn’t old and you may have fifty years to enjoy the fruits of your hard work.
Most college students take classes and study a total of 20 hours a week. They would still have plenty of time to work and invest.
Most young adults spend up to 40 hours a week looking at some type of screen. They would have plenty of time to work and invest.
If you want it, do it. If you don’t really want it, don’t feel sorry for yourself when a friend works hard and invests and retires by 50.
