Survive a Sandstorm

Place a wet cloth or mask over your nose and mouth. If available, wear goggles and coat your nostrils with petroleum jelly. In a sandstorm prone area, be sure to wear shoes, socks and long pants. Try and protect your eyes and head.

Groups should stay together. Caught in the middle of a storm, stay put. If there is any natural protection, a tree or rock, get behind it.  Rainstorms and flooding often follow sandstorms; so do not lie in a ditch. Unless you see lightning and hear thunder, head to higher ground.

In a car, pull way off the road and turn out car lights. Be sure car windows and vents are shut.
