Advancing Forest Fire

Protect your home. Remove flammable outside furniture from near house. Wet the roof. Turn off gas valves and pilot lights.

Smothering flames near you with a jacket, blanket or towel is more effective than using a small amount of water in a glass or bucket.

Be ready to stop fighting the fire and escape. Fire travels with the wind and goes uphill faster than downhill. Run toward a road, river, rocky terrain or open area. The less available flammable vegetation is better.

Last resort, if it were an option, would be dig a ditch and curl up in a ball. General rule is to get low away from suffocating smoke. Try to cover yourself with wet material.   If available, cover face and mouth with a wet cloth.

If your clothing catches fire, Stop, Drop and Roll.
