Question: I have seen some huge guys who work as bouncers at nightclubs. They look like you wouldn’t want to tangle with them but they also look like they’d have a heart attack if they had to run down the street. Do you have to be in great shape to be good at self-defense?
Answer: Many bouncers are hired for their intimidating presence. In close quarter combat which is most bar skirmishes, they win. But, throwing out a drunk patron is not necessarily self-defense.
For effective self-defense, being physically fit is an asset and even more important are a confident stance and strong mind.
